  4. Current Employee, more than 5 years

    Pros

Very overnice employee discounts. Virtually tools & supplies needed for job are provided by company.

    Cons

Repairs section is run by a bunch of people at corporate that know absolutely null nigh guitar repair or what its like working in a repair store. They never stride outside their office and spend time in bodily stores to sympathise what the real problems at hand are preventing the repairs section from increasing revenue. They don't care almost the quality of our work or the level of client service we provide as long every bit they aren't getting customer complaints. All they intendance about and look at are the numbers for each tech. How much money we bring in with repair labor. The pay and commission structure hither is a joke. For starters, corporate doesn't recall that techs deserve to brand commission on whatever parts or products that we sell...including REPAIR parts that we sell while fixing a guitar. Not even whatever spiffs or other bonus for products sold. Commission is only earned on repair labor, and but if y'all encounter a certain minimum sales full. Then because we tin earn commission, our base of operations hourly wage is very low. As in less than what a fast food worker earns. The other trouble with the committee structure is that as a tech on a really practiced day you could complete $400 worth of repairs labor for the day (and this would be a skillful 24-hour interval). Meanwhile 1 of the sales associates (an unskilled, untrained college student in most cases) can spend 20 minutes selling a $3000 guitar. And so even if the sales associate sells nothing else the residual of the 24-hour interval, he/she volition still make more than commission and so the tech who busted his butt all day to earn $400 in sales. And then in the end even though techs may earn a higher hourly rate so the sales staff, with commission the sales staff makes just equally much if not more than and then a skilled tech who went to tech school and has more repair knowledge/skill and so most people in this city. Only corporate thinks this is a off-white pay system. Techs are non treated adequately in other ways as well compared to sales staff. Sales staff almost always have some kind of spiff or incentive going on to advantage for sure types of sales. This is oftentimes some sort of cash bonus or other similar perk. Techs on the other mitt are lucky if we become ane or ii spiffs offered throughout the year. And when nosotros do become one, the actual pay of our spiff is oft lower and harder to achieve and then what is offer to the sales staff. Some other skilful example of unequal treatment of techs - as a tech y'all can bust you butt and honestly work as hard and fast as possible, just if yous don't run across your repair sales goal, you will exist frowned upon and even written up like you're not working and management thinks you're screwing around all day. Fifty-fifty when the reason you couldn't get enough repairs done is because the phone never stopped ringing for you all day, and 30 people stopped in to drop off guitars for repairs (it takes time to sign in a customer repair). Merely if you don't do these things yous become written up likewise. Meanwhile the sales staff is not busy so instead of helping out by answering repair calls or signing in repairs, they will sit and play guitar for 20 or thirty minutes at a fourth dimension. Or stand up effectually and BS with each other about their plans for the dark. Does direction always say or doing anything near this? Of course not! Subsequently all it'due south acceptable behavior for a sales associate. Merely we better write up that tech who'southward working his butt off! My direct manager himself is guilty of doing some of these aforementioned things. He besides oft leaves the store's main safe broad open up and unsecured, with no i in the office keeping an eye on it. The store is and so lucky I am not a thief! He fifty-fifty left the rear receiving door broad open and unsecured at the same fourth dimension the store safe was open up and no ane was in the warehouse keeping a spotter on things. Anyone off the street could have walked right in, emptied the condom, then left without existence seen. I know for a fact that this is non company policy and completely unacceptable. Yet does my managing director ever get yelled at or written up for something similar this? Nope. But that tech working his butt off is a far bigger problem. Practiced grief I could go on but I am tired and I'k sure few people made it this far. This may sound similar a crazy rant only everything is true. I even have proof, which I may be sending to 60 minutes and Loss Prevention shortly. I do not recall I will be working here much longer.
